France's left-wing party LFI (France Unbowed) has unveiled an ambitious budget proposal ahead of the 2027 presidential election, promising 106 billion euros in additional government revenue.

The bulk of this sum — 100 billion euros — would come from new taxation measures targeting wealthier individuals and major corporations, according to the party's economic program.

Alongside the tax increases, LFI is proposing a large-scale economic stimulus plan, intended to inject significant public spending into the economy to support growth and employment.

Éric Coquerel, a leading LFI figure overseeing budgetary matters, framed the proposal as a response to widespread economic difficulty. He argued that nearly every economic indicator in France currently points to trouble.

The notable exception, he said, is dividends — payments made by companies to their shareholders — which have continued rising despite broader economic stagnation.

Coquerel's strategy involves redirecting some of this dividend wealth toward public investment, arguing that it represents an underused resource that could help finance recovery efforts.

The plan has been described as a 'contre-budget,' or counter-budget, positioning itself explicitly as an alternative to the fiscal approach associated with outgoing president Emmanuel Macron's administration.

LFI's presidential hopeful, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, is expected to use this economic platform as a central pillar of his campaign, aiming to present voters with a sharp departure from recent governmental fiscal policy.

The proposal arrives as French political parties begin positioning their economic platforms well ahead of the 2027 vote. While LFI frames the plan as a necessary redistribution of wealth to fund recovery, critics are likely to raise concerns about the impact of such substantial tax increases on business investment and competitiveness.

As the political debate intensifies, the scale of LFI's proposed changes — both in new revenue and new spending — marks one of the most significant economic platforms presented so far in the early stages of the 2027 presidential race.
