Listen to the story
Brazilian surfer Miguel Pupo has reached the final of the California stage of the surfing world tour, the WSL. The event took place at Trestles, a famous surfing spot.
Two other Brazilian surfers, Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo, were eliminated in the second round of the competition. This meant they could not continue in the event.
Miguel Pupo, however, kept winning his heats and made it all the way to the final match of the stage.
In the final heat, Pupo was behind his opponent for most of the time. But he did not give up.
With a strong comeback in the last moments of the heat, Miguel Pupo managed to turn the result around.
He scored enough points at the end to win the final and become the champion of the Trestles stage.
This victory is an important result for Miguel Pupo's career and for Brazilian surfing on the world tour.
The WSL, or World Surf League, organizes surfing competitions in different countries every year. Surfers compete in stages to earn points for the world ranking.
