Listen to the story

The government of Karnataka has made a big announcement. It says 101 talukas in the state have drought. A taluka is a small area inside a district.

Ballari is one district with drought. Four talukas in Ballari have no rain. The government says crops on 29,000 hectares of land are dead.

A hectare is a way to measure land. Farmers there lost their crops. This is bad news for many families.

The BJP is a big political party in India. The BJP is not happy with the government's help. They want more support for farmers.

BJP wants the government to give a loan waiver. This means farmers do not have to pay back their loans. BJP wants this for loans up to 1 lakh rupees.

One lakh means 100,000 in Indian numbers. Many farmers took loans to grow crops. Now they cannot pay because their crops died.

The government has not said yes to this yet. People wait to see what happens next.
