Amazon Deforestation Hits Record Low Before Key Brazil Election
Listen to the story
Forests in the Brazilian Amazon are important for the world. Trees there take in bad gas from the air. This helps stop climate change.
New numbers show good news. Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon is now at its lowest point ever. People started counting in 1988. This is the smallest loss of forest since then.
The government calls this a big win. President Lula has worked to protect the forest. Soon, Brazil will have an important election. There will be a run-off vote for president.
Many people wonder what will happen next. Will Brazil keep protecting the Amazon? Or will forest loss go up again? The answer may depend on who wins the election.
The Amazon is the biggest rainforest in the world. It is home to many animals and plants. Protecting it helps the whole planet, not just Brazil.
