Young Weather Forecaster Says Winter Will Arrive Late This Year

Jorge Rey, popularly known as "the child meteorologist," has outlined his expectations for the arrival of winter in Spain, suggesting that the coldest conditions will be delayed until December.

According to Rey, strong winter cold fronts are unlikely to affect the country before that month, meaning that snowfall in typical winter regions will also arrive later than usual this year.

In the shorter term, Rey has focused on the current autumn season, warning of the potential formation of a DANA — a Spanish term referring to an isolated high-altitude depression that can trigger intense and sudden rainfall. He specifically pointed to the Levante region, on Spain's eastern coast, as an area likely to experience heavy rain as a result of this weather pattern.

Rey has also identified particular dates when the risk of DANA formation is considered elevated, allowing residents and authorities to remain alert to the possibility of sudden flooding or severe weather events during this period.

Looking further ahead, Rey's seasonal outlook suggests that winter as a whole will be milder than average in terms of temperature. However, he cautioned that this milder winter is expected to be unusually long, meaning that cooler conditions could persist well beyond the typical winter timeframe.

Rey's combination of short-term storm alerts and broader seasonal predictions has attracted public attention, particularly given the increasing concern in Spain over the frequency and intensity of DANA events in recent years, which have previously caused significant flooding and disruption in various regions.
