Weather Warning Issued for Mallorca: Heat, Rain and Storms

Spain's national meteorological agency, AEMET, has activated a weather alert for the island of Mallorca, warning of high temperatures, rain, and storms expected on Friday, August 14. The alert covers the wider Balearic Islands region, known locally as the Baleares.

According to AEMET's forecast, Palma, the Balearic capital, is set to experience particularly challenging conditions throughout the day. Temperatures are expected to climb sharply during daylight hours, while precipitation and thunderstorms are likely to develop later, particularly in the afternoon and evening.

Such alerts are issued when weather conditions are considered potentially hazardous to public safety. In this case, the combination of intense heat and unstable atmospheric conditions leading to storms creates a risk profile that authorities want both residents and visitors to be aware of.

August is peak tourist season in Mallorca, with the Balearic Islands attracting large numbers of visitors from across Europe. The timing of the alert is therefore significant, as high numbers of people are likely to be outdoors, at beaches, or travelling around the island when the adverse weather is forecast to hit.

Authorities typically advise the public to limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, stay hydrated, and monitor official channels for updates as the situation develops.
