UK Watchdog Investigates Pornhub Over Child Access Concerns

Pornhub, one of the most visited pornography websites in the world, is being investigated by Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator, over concerns that children may still be able to access the platform.

Ofcom, which oversees broadcasting, telecommunications, and internet services in the UK, has raised doubts about whether Pornhub's age-verification systems meet the legal standard required under the country's Online Safety Act.

The Online Safety Act is a piece of UK legislation designed to protect internet users, particularly minors, from exposure to harmful or age-inappropriate online content.

Under the act, websites hosting adult material are legally required to implement a “highly effective” age-checking system, meaning one that reliably and consistently prevents underage users from gaining access.

According to Ofcom, Pornhub's current age-verification measures may fall short of this threshold, raising concerns that children could still be able to view explicit content on the site.
