Spanish Poll Shows PP Leading Ahead of Next Elections

A new poll offers an early snapshot of Spanish public opinion ahead of the country's next electoral cycle. According to the survey, the conservative PP would emerge as the leading force, securing more than 30% of voter support.

The socialist PSOE, meanwhile, would hold on to second place, resisting with more than 28% of the vote despite facing recent political difficulties. This suggests that the governing party has managed to preserve a solid core of support even as challenges mount.

Among these challenges is the situation in Ceuta, the Spanish exclave in North Africa, where the poll indicates the PSOE's support has dropped to its lowest point, translating into only around a hundred seats at the national level in some projections. At the same time, both the PP and the far-right party Vox appear to be gaining ground in the city.

Nationally, the combined projections for PP and Vox suggest the two right-wing parties could together surpass 200 seats in the Spanish Congress, a threshold that would significantly strengthen their parliamentary position if such results materialised in a real election.

The poll also highlights the emergence of Aliança Catalana, a Catalan pro-independence party, which could win representation in the Congress should it decide to contest a national election. Its potential entry reflects the continued fragmentation of the Spanish political landscape, particularly regarding Catalonia's territorial debate.

Despite the setback linked to the Ceuta crisis, the PSOE's ability to maintain more than a quarter of voter support indicates that its overall electoral base has not collapsed, even as regional dynamics create pressure on specific fronts.

Overall, the survey points to a political map still dominated by the two traditional parties, PP and PSOE, but increasingly shaped by the rising influence of Vox on the right and emerging regional forces such as Aliança Catalana, underscoring the ongoing complexity of Spain's multi-party system.
