Italian broadcaster Rai 2 sparked frustration among viewers on Monday night after it cut short the broadcast of the film 'The Da Vinci Code' just before its ending.

The channel interrupted the film in order to start 'Il processo del lunedì' on time, a program that follows football matches and typically airs after weekend games. The abrupt switch meant that audiences were denied the film's climax, the final and most anticipated part of the story.

Rai 2 attributed the disruption to a technical error, indicating that the interruption was unintentional and caused by a problem within the broadcasting system rather than an editorial decision.

The incident nonetheless drew significant criticism from viewers, many of whom took to social media to express their disappointment at being unable to see how the film concluded after investing time in watching it.

Television schedules in Italy, as in many countries, are often tightly organised around fixed programming, meaning that even a single delay can force broadcasters to cut content abruptly to stay on time for the next show.
