Punjab CM's Wife Sends Legal Notice to Former Judge Amid Political Row

Dr Gurpreet Kaur, wife of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has issued a legal notice to former judge Ranjit Singh, amid a growing political controversy in the state.

The notice follows claims that a demand of 5 crore rupees, roughly 50 million rupees, was made in connection with the case, although full details of the original complaint have not been made public.

Reports describe the matter as a case involving allegations of rape, which has since escalated into a wider political dispute.

In response to the controversy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a protest in Amritsar, a major city in Punjab.

BJP leader Sarbjit Shanty addressed the protest, calling on CM Mann to resign from his position.

Shanty added that if the allegations against those involved are proven true, the responsible parties should face appropriate punishment under the law.

The case has also drawn attention from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), a body that investigates alleged violations of human rights in India.
