McDonald's Japan Raises Minimum Delivery Order for Breakfast Menu

McDonald's Japan has confirmed that it will raise the minimum order requirement for its morning McDelivery service, increasing the threshold from 1,000 yen to 1,500 yen starting August 18.

The change applies specifically to "McMorning," the company's breakfast menu, and does not affect delivery thresholds for lunch or dinner orders placed later in the day. Customers wishing to have breakfast items delivered to their homes will need to spend an additional 500 yen to qualify for delivery once the new policy takes effect.

McDelivery is McDonald's food delivery service in Japan, allowing customers to order meals through the company's app or partner platforms rather than visiting a restaurant. Minimum order requirements are common practice among delivery services, as they help offset the fixed operational costs associated with dispatching drivers for smaller orders.

The company has not issued a detailed public explanation for the price adjustment. However, the move comes amid a broader trend across Japan's restaurant industry, where businesses have been raising prices in response to increased costs for ingredients, labor, and logistics over the past several years.

Rising input costs have put pressure on fast-food chains and other food service operators, many of which have already adjusted menu prices or delivery conditions to maintain profitability. McDonald's Japan itself has made several pricing adjustments in recent years across various parts of its business.

The upcoming change means that customers who previously could meet the delivery threshold with a smaller morning order will now need to add more items or opt for larger portions to reach the new 1,500 yen minimum.
