Juventus Move for Japan Goalkeeper Ayase Suzuki Sparks Criticism

Japan international goalkeeper Ayase Suzuki has agreed a new five-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to reports, cementing his status at the French champions.

Despite the new deal, however, reports indicate that Suzuki could be sent out on loan almost immediately, with Juventus emerging as a potential destination. A loan arrangement would allow the young shot-stopper to gain regular first-team experience in Serie A while remaining under contract with PSG.

The suggestion that Suzuki might join Juventus has provoked a sharp reaction in Italy. A former Juventus player, now referred to as an OB—a term used for former club members who retain close ties to the organisation—launched a scathing attack on the proposed move.

Describing the idea as "no joke" and insisting it "makes absolutely no sense," the ex-player argued that the club would be better served by bringing back Gianluigi Buffon, the iconic former goalkeeper, rather than pursuing Suzuki.

Buffon, widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of the sport, spent the majority of his career at Juventus and remains a beloved figure among supporters, which may explain the emotional weight behind the comparison.

Separately, other reports have floated the possibility of a return move to Parma, the Serie A club where Suzuki previously played before his transfer to PSG. However, a source close to the situation reportedly stated that there is currently "no place" for him at Parma, casting doubt on that option as well.

The conflicting reports leave Suzuki's short-term future uncertain, with no confirmation yet on whether Juventus, Parma, or another club will secure his services on loan.

The public criticism from a former Juventus figure highlights the scepticism that still surrounds the transfer speculation, suggesting that any move for Suzuki may face resistance from within the club's own history and fanbase before it is finalised.
