Jovanotti Concert in Barletta Cancelled Due to Asbestos

A stop on Italian singer Jovanotti's summer tour has been cancelled after asbestos was found in the area designated for the concert, organisers confirmed.

The Barletta date of the "Jova Summer Party" tour, originally scheduled for August 17, was withdrawn from the itinerary after the hazardous material was detected at the venue.

Asbestos, a naturally occurring mineral once widely used in construction, is now recognised as a serious health hazard. Its fibres, when inhaled, can lead to severe respiratory diseases and certain cancers, prompting strict regulations around its removal in many countries, including Italy.

Given these risks, local authorities determined that proceeding with the event would have been unsafe for both performers and attendees, leading to the concert's outright cancellation rather than a temporary postponement.

Barletta's mayor, Cannito, publicly confirmed the decision, describing it as a "defeat" for the city. His comments reflect broader frustration over losing a high-profile cultural event that had been expected to draw significant crowds and boost local visibility.

Jovanotti, one of Italy's most popular contemporary artists, has been touring extensively this summer, with his "Jova Summer Party" shows drawing large audiences across the country. The cancellation in Barletta represents a notable disruption to the tour's schedule.

No alternative date has yet been announced for a rescheduled performance in the city, and it remains unclear how long the asbestos issue at the site will take to resolve.
