Alexia Putellas Shines Again at Ballon d'Or 2026

Spanish football star Alexia Putellas has once again been celebrated at the Ballon d'Or awards, reaffirming her status as one of the sport's most decorated players.

The Ballon d'Or, widely regarded as the most prestigious individual honour in football, recognises outstanding performances over the course of a season. Putellas, who plays for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team, was once again among those singled out for praise at the 2026 ceremony.

The event was not limited to individual recognition. PSG, Barcelona, and Spanish national team coach Luis de la Fuente also received applause for their achievements, reflecting the broader success enjoyed by Spanish football at both club and national levels.

A particular highlight of the evening was the naming of Barcelona's women's team as the best in the world. This accolade underscores the club's continued dominance in the women's game, a position it has built over recent years through sustained investment and strong results.

Putellas, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner in previous years, has long been considered a key figure in the rise of women's football in Spain and across Europe. Her return to the spotlight at this year's ceremony reinforces her enduring influence on the sport.

The Ballon d'Or gala, held annually, brings together leading figures from the football world, including players, coaches, and club representatives, to mark the season's most significant achievements. This year's edition placed a notable emphasis on Spanish success stories, with multiple awards going to Spanish players, clubs, and officials.

While the full list of winners and categories has not been detailed, the recognition given to Putellas, Barcelona, PSG, and De la Fuente points to a strong overall showing for Spanish and French football in 2026.

Observers have noted that the naming of Barcelona's women's team as the world's best is likely to further boost interest and investment in women's football going forward.
