Alcaraz Praises Zverev as World No. 1

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has publicly acknowledged that his rival, German star Alexander Zverev, fully deserves his recent rise to the position of world number one. Alcaraz made the comment ahead of his own opening match at the 2026 Vienna Open.

The remark, in which Alcaraz described Zverev's new ranking as 'more than deserved,' reflects the mutual respect that has developed between the two players, who have frequently faced each other in high-profile tournaments over recent seasons.

Alcaraz is set to begin his campaign in Vienna against Russian player Karen Khachanov, in what has been described as a tricky opening fixture. The Spaniard, long regarded as one of the sport's most dominant young talents, will be looking to continue his strong form despite facing a challenging first opponent.

Zverev's recent climb to the top of the men's rankings marks a significant moment in his career, as he becomes the sport's top-rated player for the first time. His consistent performances throughout the season have been central to this achievement, and comments from leading rivals such as Alcaraz further underline the scale of his accomplishment.

The Vienna Open, an established fixture on the professional tennis calendar, continues to attract some of the sport's biggest names. As the tournament gets underway, fans are closely following match schedules and broadcast details, with Alcaraz's campaign expected to be one of the main attractions of the event.

While specific match statistics and further quotes from either player have not yet been reported, the exchange highlights the ongoing dynamic between two of tennis's leading figures as the new season develops.
