Survey About Electric Cars; The Biggest Reason Some People Don’t Buy

Electric-only vehicles are in the spotlight because of high gas prices

A survey of adults in the U.S. found the biggest reason some people don’t want to buy an electric car. Many people say that they don’t know when or where to charge an electric vehicle.

This information comes from a survey of about 8,000 people by Consumer Reports. 36% of the surveyed people say that they will “definitely” or “seriously consider” buying an electric-only car.

For 61% of the people surveyed, the biggest worry about buying an electric vehicle is finding charging stations and the time needed to recharge the car. 55% say that they are concerned about how far the car can go on one charge. 52% think that electric-only vehicles are too expensive. 

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, there are about 49,000 public charging stations in the U.S.

In June, president Biden said that it is his goal to build 500,000 charging stations across the country.

This survey was done in January and February. At that time, gas prices started increasing a lot. Consumer Reports says that the people most likely to buy an electric vehicle are young males living in cities with a good education and high income. 

Quinta Warren, Consumer Reports’ associate, says that the survey shows that Americans are interested in cheaper transportation and not hurting the environment. She also says that the concerns from the survey are not real barriers.
