New Strike Call in French Schools on Tuesday
Listen to the story
French education unions have called for a new strike on Tuesday. This follows weeks of tension in schools across the country.
At the same time, a student movement has grown in high schools. According to the interior minister, 41 high schools have been blocked by students.
The minister also said that some very serious incidents have taken place. He did not give many details about these events.
Édouard Geffray, a senior official in the education system, spoke with readers about the situation. He said changing the bac quickly, without careful planning, is 'not a good idea.'
The bac is the main exam French students take at the end of high school. It is important for entering university, so any changes to it are closely watched.
This new strike call shows that both teachers and students are unhappy with current education policies. The strike and the student protests seem to be connected, though they involve different groups with their own demands.
It is not yet clear how the strike on Tuesday will affect schools nationwide, or whether the blocked high schools will reopen soon.
