KFC Japan to Sell 2027 Lucky Bag with Barrel-Shaped Dish
Listen to the story
KFC Japan has announced a new lucky bag for 2027, called the "Kenta Fukubukuro."
A lucky bag is a bag of surprise products that people buy without knowing exactly what is inside, often sold around New Year in Japan.
This year's bag will cost 3,900 yen but will include coupons worth 5,280 yen in total, giving buyers extra value.
A special item inside the bag is a ceramic pot shaped like KFC's famous barrel design.
The barrel shape is well known because KFC often sells its chicken in round barrel-shaped containers.
Instead of selling the bag directly in stores, KFC will use a pre-order lottery system.
Customers who want the lucky bag must apply during the application period and hope to be chosen.
The lottery for applications will begin on November 13.
This information comes from an official press release by Japan KFC Holdings Co., Ltd.
Lucky bags are a popular New Year tradition in Japan, with many companies offering their own versions.
Customers enjoy the surprise element, as well as the chance to get items worth more than the price they pay.
KFC has not shared further details about the full contents of the bag beyond the coupons and the ceramic barrel-shaped dish.
