Javier Bardem Puts Family Rule in His Work Contracts

Spanish actor Javier Bardem, 57, has revealed an unusual clause in his film contracts. He says it is innegociable, meaning it cannot be changed or removed.

According to Bardem, the rule limits how long he can be away from his children while working. He says his body, and his contracts, only allow him to be apart from them for a maximum of two weeks at a time.

He described the limit with the phrase "three as much," suggesting three weeks is an absolute maximum he will accept for any job.

Bardem explained that in his household, there is a fixed family arrangement: one parent must always be present with the children. He shares his children with actor Penélope Cruz, and the couple appear to take turns being away for work.

This kind of personal clause is unusual in the film industry, where actors often travel for long shoots lasting many weeks or months. Bardem's comments suggest he actively negotiates limits on this with producers before agreeing to a role.
