India Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Warning for 24 States on August 22
Listen to the story
India's weather agency, IMD, has issued a new alert for August 22. It warns of very strong storms.
According to IMD, 24 states will get heavy rainfall within the next 17 hours. This is a wide area of the country.
Along with the rain, strong winds are expected. Wind speed may reach up to 85 kilometers per hour in some places.
In Delhi-NCR, heavy rain has already made the weather cooler and more pleasant for people.
Meanwhile, seven rivers in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have crossed the danger mark. This means flooding is a serious risk in these areas.
The situation is very serious in Himachal Pradesh, where the death toll from rain-related incidents has reached 219 so far this season.
Not every part of India is facing rain, though. In Sriganganagar, Rajasthan, the temperature has stayed high at around 40 degrees Celsius.
IMD's update shows how different India's weather can be at the same time. Some regions face floods, while others deal with heat.
