India Objects to UN Map Over Kashmir Border Lines

India has raised an objection over a new world map published by the United Nations. India says the map does not correctly show Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as parts of its territory.

According to India, the map fails to show its borders in the correct way. Indian officials have told the UN that the map must be changed to match India's own official maps of the region.

Pakistan has strongly reacted to India's objection. Pakistan has again used its old argument that Kashmir is a disputed region, not fully part of India.

The Shahbaz Sharif government in Pakistan responded quickly after India's statement about the UN map. Pakistan continues to say that the status of Kashmir has not been settled.

Kashmir has been a source of conflict between India and its neighbour Pakistan for decades. Both countries claim the region, and each shows it differently on their own maps.

This is not the first time a map has caused tension between the two countries. Maps of Kashmir often become political issues because they show different versions of who controls which area.

The disagreement over the UN map shows how deep the Kashmir dispute still runs, more than seventy years after it first began between the two neighbouring countries.
