France sets new record in Euro 2024 qualifier game

It was a special night for France’s national soccer team and its fans. The team beat Gibraltar 14-0 in a European Championship qualifying match.
France is ranked No. 2 in world soccer, but Gibraltar is ranked 198. In this game, it was easy to see the difference in skill.
The score from this game is the biggest difference in goals in the history of qualifier games. The previous record was when Germany beat San Marino 13-0 in 2006. It’s also the first time a team scored 14 goals in a World Cup or European Championship qualifying match.
French star Kylian Mbappé scored a hat trick. Seven goals were scored in each half of the game.
Warren Zaïre-Emery also became France’s youngest player to debut since 1914. He scored a goal in the first half.
The game started badly for Gibraltar. Ethan Santos scored an own goal three minutes after the game started. In the 18th minute of the game, Santos got a red card and was sent off.
Ousmane Dembélé, Jonathan Clauss, Marcus Thuram, Youssouf Fofana and Adrien Rabiot all scored for France. Olivier Giroud and Kingsley Coman both scored two goals each.
