Listen to the story
Former Real Madrid player José María Gutiérrez, known as Guti, has spoken publicly about Barcelona star Lamine Yamal.
Guti made it clear that he is not a supporter of Barcelona, Real Madrid's biggest rival. However, he said it is important to recognize good football talent, no matter which club a player plays for.
He described Yamal as a grandísimo jugador, a Spanish phrase meaning 'a very great player'. Guti said that Yamal has the potential to become the best player of the year.
He also suggested that Yamal could go on to win several Balones de Oro, one of the most prestigious individual awards in football.
In the same interview, Guti gave a warning to his former club. He said Real Madrid would be making a mistake if it focused only on Yamal when thinking about future transfers or tactics.
Yamal's father has also been in the news recently. He said that people often ask him why he does not have a regular job, apparently referring to comments about his life since his son became famous.
