Burger King emailed a blank receipt to thousands of customers. People started to receive the emails just after midnight (GMT -4). The customers were confused and wondered if Burger King had been hacked or if it was a technical error.
Many people turned to Twitter to find out more information. It seems that some customers even received two blank emails. The emails were blank order confirmations sent by Burger King’s marketing email address.
However, there was no clear evidence that Burger King was hacked. Some customers speculated that it was a form of guerilla marketing.
Eventually, the Burger King public relations team claimed that the issue was a technical error.
