Bullet Train Stops Suddenly After Parent and Child Approach Track

A parent and child who missed their Shinkansen train caused a dramatic scene on Japan's Sanyo bullet train line.

According to reports, the pair approached the train after it had already begun preparing to leave the platform.

This forced the driver to make an emergency stop, halting the powerful train suddenly.

A bystander filmed the moment, and the video quickly spread across social media.

As the clip gained attention online, a news outlet called J-CAST News contacted JR West, the company that operates the Sanyo Shinkansen, for details about what had happened.

JR West is one of Japan's major railway operators, running high-speed trains across western Japan.

The company explained the circumstances of the incident to the reporters.

Separately, two other Shinkansen delays were reported around the same time on a different line, the Tokaido Shinkansen, which is operated by JR Central.

On the night of August 11, JR Central announced that trains had been delayed due to staff assisting a passenger at Shin-Osaka Station.

The exact nature of the assistance was not specified in the announcement.

The following night, on August 12, a delay occurred after someone pressed an emergency stop button at Tokyo Station.

Emergency stop buttons are installed at Japanese stations to allow passengers or staff to quickly halt trains if there is danger on the tracks or platform.

Pressing one triggers an immediate response from the railway system, often causing wider delays across the line.

JR Central confirmed this second delay in its own announcement that evening.

Both incidents added to a series of unusual disruptions on Japan's Shinkansen network in mid-August.

While such events are relatively rare, they highlight the strict safety systems built into Japan's high-speed rail network, which prioritise passenger safety even at the cost of temporary delays.
