Listen to the story (Filipino accent)

A birthday picnic in Connecticut, USA ended early because of a surprise visit from a black bear.

Rauf and Laura Majidian recorded video of the bear eating food that was prepared for their two-year-old son's birthday party.

The bear came to the table and ate some of the cupcakes, but wasn't interested in the bread or juice.

Laura said she was a little scared and "freaked out" because of the bear. She said that she and the other adults at the party quickly picked up the kids and brought them inside when the bear appeared.

Rauf said that the bear wasn't intimidated by the people. He said that the adults at the party tried making noise and screaming to scare away the bear, but it didn't work.

The number of black bears in Connecticut is increasing and more and more people are seeing them.

Black bears are intelligent, have good ears, and a strong sense of smell. They can smell food from very far away.

Normally, black bears are shy and afraid of humans. However, if they can often find food near homes, they get used to humans and become less scared.

Laura said that the birthday party was the first time a bear had come to their house, but she sometimes sees them in the neighborhood.
