Norway Suspends Imports of Brazilian Animal Proteins, Following EU

0:00 / 0:00

Listen to the story

Norway has stopped buying animal proteins from Brazil. Animal proteins are foods like meat and chicken from animals. This includes beef and other meat products.

The European Union (EU) also stopped these imports before. An import is a product that comes from another country. Norway is now doing the same thing as the EU.

But there is other news too. In July, Brazil sold a lot of beef to the EU. This beef had the highest value in 20 years. Value means how much money something is worth.

Brazil also has problems selling meat to other countries. The United States has new tariffs on Brazilian meat. A tariff is an extra tax on goods from another country.

China also has quotas on Brazilian meat. A quota is a limit on how much you can sell. These problems make it harder for Brazilian companies to sell meat abroad.

Many people ask if it is still good to invest in Brazilian meat companies. These companies are called frigoríficos in Portuguese, or meatpacking companies in English. Investors want to know if these companies can still make money and pay dividends. A dividend is money a company pays to people who own its stock.
