Listen to the story

Many people in Spain want a change in the law. This law is called the 'grandchildren's law'. It gives Spanish nationality to grandchildren of people who left Spain long ago. These people are called exiles. A new survey says almost 70% of Spaniards want to slow this down.

Spain has an important election soon. It is on November 29. Some descendants of exiles can vote in this election. But there is a problem. Spain's top court, the Supreme Court, must decide about their voting rights. The court must decide very fast, before the election.

The election date came earlier than expected. This makes the court's decision harder. Some people say voting for these descendants might stop. But this is not clear yet. The Supreme Court has very little time to choose.
