India May Raise Dearness Allowance for Government Workers in 2026
Listen to the story
India's government may give more money to its workers. This extra money is called Dearness Allowance, or DA. It helps workers pay for rising prices.
The DA may go up in July 2026. Right now, DA is 60 percent. It may rise to about 63 or 64 percent. This means a 3 percent hike.
The change depends on a number called AICPI-IW. This number went up by 1.2 points in August. It shows how much prices are rising.
DA is linked to a worker's basic salary. Basic salary is the main part of pay, without extra money. If DA goes up, workers get more total pay.
The government checks prices often. It uses this to decide the new DA rate. Many central government employees wait for this news every year.
This is not final yet. It is still a possible plan. The government will announce the real number later.
