Florida Orders Removal of License Plate Cameras From State Highways

Florida has banned special cameras from its highways. The cameras are called license plate readers. They read the numbers on car plates. One popular brand is called Flock.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) made the new rule. It is a state agency. FDOT says all these cameras must come off state roads. The roads are called state-maintained roads. This means Florida takes care of them.
Police often use these cameras. They help police find cars linked to crimes. But now police cannot use them on state highways.
One sheriff in Florida is not happy. A sheriff is a top police officer in a county. He wants to find a workaround. A workaround is a way to solve a problem in a different way.
The sheriff wants to keep using cameras to help fight crime. But he must follow the new state order. It is not clear yet what he will do next.
