0:00 / 0:00

Listen to the story

There is a crisis at Brazil's top court, the STF.

A judge named Mendonça removed Andrei Rodrigues from his job. Rodrigues is the chief of the federal police, called PF.

Another judge, Flávio Dino, disagreed. Dino reinstated Rodrigues and another official named Almada.

Reinstated means they got their jobs back.

A group of judges called the Second Panel looked at the case. This is called a judicial panel.

The panel supported Mendonça's first decision. But the panel agreed with only nine minutes of talk.

Nine minutes is a very short time for a big decision.

Mendonça also put new limits on the police. He changed rules about reports.

He also limited the police Intelligence unit. Intelligence means secret information work.
